Social Intricacy / The Beach 2008-2010

Sound Transit
Concrete, granite, landscapaing
100' x 25' x 15'
A Sound Transit project transforms a street into a transit center with a plaza that gathers and connects all ages using the bus system and accessing a park, library, performing arts center and retail. The art lets the stair from the library expand at the sidewalk and turn back on itself - a grounded foil for the rising architectural trellis. The basic form is architectural concrete with eruptions of worked granite stones arranged as a visual puzzle alluding to the natural and the built. The area will function as a built “beach” located a few blocks from the beach at Lake Washington, a body of water that defines the community outside Seattle.
